This is Sadie the Dog wearing her new Apple Watch. The watch actually belongs to my young and lovely wife, Mary Alyce, but she was unwilling to be photographed this morning while Sadie will pose anytime, anywhere. This is the Sport model of the Apple Watch in space gray with a black band. What makes this picture interesting is the watch was delivered last Friday two weeks early.
I ordered the watch on the first day Apple was taking orders but didn’t do so in the middle of the night so I missed the first batch of watches that were delivered in April. It was promised for delivery June first. Since then there have been stories about faulty sensors and other suggestions that watch deliveries might be later than expected — stories that I’d say are belied by this early delivery.
I’m nobody special to Apple so this is not a perk just because I ordered it. So if you have been handicapping Apple earnings based on watch supply glitches, I think you should stop.
Sadie now has to learn to tell time or Siri has to learn how to bark.
And for those who are wondering, Sadie is a five year-old Carolina Dog, also called an American Dingo.
That’s one hot looking dog 🙂
I see she’s wearing the watch up a ways from her wrist. I saw another article about Apple watches indicating that they’re more comfortable worn that way, so it looks like Sadie’s mastered it already.
Congratulations on having the most technologically equipped dog since Astro Jetson,
There is a bigger story here to be explored. I also ordered the watch the same way you did with the same June delivery but got it on the first day of the watch (April 24?)
On April 22 I also received an email from Apple saying there is a lottery between developers to enter the first batch, this was separate from my regular order.
Clearly Apple is doing some kind of seeding process here.
Also after reporting a bug in the watch to their support an Apple developer (not a support guy) called me back to ask questions and he wasnt aware I am an App developer.
I wear a watch (analog) everyday. I cannot think why even if the I-watch or Android-watch was 30.00 that I’d even want one. Look at the size of phones more Phablet size is winning; they are viewable. So why step back and miro size? I don’t get it.
And no where in this article is “watch dog” even mentioned?
Laughed out loud. Thanks!
Lookin’ good, Sadie.
So now we know what your wife may use, assuming she likes the Apple watch, but what is your plan?
Clearly Sadie is a right-pawed dog.
I ordered the same model, color and band, but mine is a 42mm. I am guessing yours is a 38mm? I ordered mine 3.5 hours into the pre-order period. Mine still says May 29 to June 11 ship date.
I loved this article, Bob! At last some good news! And finally someone/thing will be able to appreciate the usefulness and true value of the the Awatch, or is it Iwatch, or even “Uwatch it watch you”?
Well known that Dogs have a vocabularly consisting of one word, and that word translates as “hey!”
As it turns out, watches and clocks have had the same vocabulary as Dogs for a long, long time before Suri ever figured out how to talk. My alarm clock when it rings, like dogs, it is saying “hey!”.
I wear an Omega Seamaster and have done for about 15 years now. It was a present to myself for achieving certain things I wanted to achieve in life. I wanted something high quality, which represented dedicated craftsmanship, and wasn’t battery powered. And having no electronic parts was absolutely out of character for me. In fact, buying such a watch was out of character! It does, however, mean a lot to me.
.
I really do want to buy an Apple watch. So my question is:
…Will I look silly wearing two watches, one on either wrist?
I’m in somewhat the same boat. I’ve been wearing the same watch for 25 years now owing to a sentimental value. I’ve been thinking of getting an Apple Sport watch for doing activities or events where having a watch like that would be better than just having an analog watch of sentimental value.
I’ll probably wait till next year though, as the kinks should be all worked out by then and battery life improved (I hope)
Bill, when I’m doing sport I normally then put on my Polar heart rate monitor. We might also have to grow another couple of arms for all the wearables that are coming out from all sources too.
.
Ah, having to lead another fashion trend! Now, I’ll just get my purse out my handbag… 😉
Yes.
Here’s a great product idea for you Bob! The iDog – A smart collar for dogs. It can know when your dog is venturing out of your yard and give the audio commands (eg Hey!) It can give disciplinary zaps if needed. If you dog gets too adventurous its built in GPS it can track the dogs location. It can monitor the dogs physical activity, calories burned, etc.
“A dingo took my Sadie”!
I guess Sadie the dog would have preferred an iBone instead…
Over the years Mr. Cringely has shared with us many colorful nicknames others have given him — lard butt, dipstick, etc. I naively thought dingo was a new nickname for Bob. I didn’t know it was the breed of a dog. Or maybe it is both a dog breed and Cringely nickname…I guess only the Cringely family knows for sure.
Clearly Apple is doing some kind of seeding process here. Also after reporting a bug in the watch to their support
Oops- Sadie has been 1-upped!

Don’t let Apple see this… they’ll branch out into pet technologies! I can see it now… the Apple Bowl. The iBone. The iLeash. 😛
