I am an ambitious boy who likes to code Java.
I wonder how to code Mojang applications.
I hear water splashing on the seashore.
I see happiness in the air.
I want superpowers.
I am an ambitious boy who likes to code Java.
I pretend I am flying on the swing.
I feel scared of bridges.
I touch the center of the Earth.
I worry about earthquakes.
I cry when I get insulted.
I am an ambitious boy who likes to code Java.
I understand the meaning of life.
I say Bigfoot is real.
I dream about living in Lala Land.
I try to help as much as I can.
I hope to have lots of gummies.
I am an ambitious boy who likes to code Java.
Happy Birthday, Cole!
Happy Birthday. I’m moving to Christchurch so I worry about earthquakes too. Try out Python, you’ll like it.
Happy Birthday Cole. PHP is the present and the future…..
I hope someone gives him a comb for his birthday.
Well, I knew it wouldn’t take long before some a**hole would make a derogatory remark about your hair, Cole.
But I hope this will be a good occasion to learn about when to ignore the petty, the small minded and the dinosaurs that lurk around us in large numbers!
So good luck, thank the stars to have the parents you have, and good coding forever!
The hair may not attract 50-year old men, but it probably does well with 11-year girls.
You’re just jealous he has a need for a comb!
:p
I hope someone gives him a comb for his birthday.
I hope some gives you a personality for yours.
get a clue, pard, it’s how the kids do it.
Happy Birthday, Cole! I wish I knew as much as you did when I was nine… In fact I still don’t know how to code in Java, so that’s one more you have on me at 52. Congratulations and I’m sure you can look forward to a bright future. (And if you figure out that superpowers thing, let me know!)
Happy B’day, Cole. Ask dad to bring you to Italy, so you can claim your free real napolitan pizza by my family.
And, by the way, give a look to C language. Not C++ nor Objective-C. You’ll know why.
I hope you know the Answer to the Life, the Universe and Eveything as well. We all know already.
Happy Birthday, Cole. That is awesome that you like Java! I hope someday soon you will consider running for president of your local Java Users Group. And I hope you are not bothered by grumpy old men who comment on how you wear your hair.
Happy Birthday Cole! I like your poem. You seem like a fine young man, off to a great start in life. I used to live over the bridge in Richmond and I worried about earthquakes too. Life can be pretty strange at times, just ask your Dad, he knows. Your curiosity, honesty and willingness to help will serve you very well. Enjoy being a kid, don’t be in a big hurry to grow up, and look for the good things around you, they’re always there.
He’s ambitious, he knows how to code, he knows how to write. Is he going to take over the Cringely dynasty when his Dad retires?
Happy Birthday!
Back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the earth, programming languages like FORTRAN, COBOL,and LISP were not written by programmers, but by language designers using the KISS methodology.
Most of the modern languages from C on were written by programmers and have evolved into the convoluted messes we have today that are debugging nightmares..
I am not saying learn those languages, but see that you can code significant applications without objects, classes, lambdas, monads, etc.
Happy Birthday Cole!
I hope you have fun on your birthday! I think BigFoot is real too!
I hope you’ll always see happiness AND get lots of gummies!
Russ
I was scared of bridges too. When I was 17 I rode to key west on a harley. Get your family to fly to Miami and then drive to Key West for a swim and to see the green flash. Happy Birthday Cole.
I like your shirt! I need to get one of mine on and join in the festivities! Have a great day!
Happy Birthday Cole! Keep coding. It never gets old. 🙂 Though sometimes you’ll need a break, haha. And that’s okay.
Python is awesome. You should be able to pick it up. And I had a good time with what little django I played with. I’m sure your dad can help you find a decent book. Should be all you need to get started.

Huh? His hair actually looks to be in decent shape. Granted, the part isn’t straight, but I’m guessing this wasn’t senior pictures. Mostly due to the fact that he’s 9. After being outside, my part sometimes isn’t straight either.
Congratulations, you FAILED on insulting a 9-year-old. That takes talent.
Happy Birthday Cole. Try some Android programming. It’s Java-riffic.
happy birthday, you’ve got a really good start at the next 70 or 80 years 😉
If Cole wants to code like Notch at Mojang, take a look on youtube for Making Bunny Press. Notch posted a time lapse of his computer screen while working on that game which he built in 18 hours (3 minute video). Of course, Minecraft took longer but it is interesting to watch.

apologies for the duplicates – having some issue with browser
Cole could watch Notch write a program in 18 hours in a 3 minute time lapse video. Search Youtube for Making Bunny Press
Lalaland
A fictional, nonphysical place where people out of touch with reality live and where nonsensical ideas come from; often used sarcastically pertaining to where one’s mind has gone. Where have you been: Lalaland? (said to a person whose mind was wandering.) She lives out in Lalaland. (said of a person considered out of touch with reality)

For several weeks the name that IE10 uses for the cringely.com homepage tab or jump list listing is “the website is currently unreachable”. That name comes back even after I delete both entries and restart IE when I go to the site manually and then try to add it back to either list.
Happy birthday to Cole.
And a word for Mark: no matter what you create in life – books, movies or art – ultimately the best creation of all is your own progeny. But then you probably know that…
I
There was a time when I was nine.
Star Wars was about to premiere and I was excited – there had never been a movie like it before.
Computers existed only in the realms of government and science fiction, but I longed for them.
Now it’s 38 years later…
And I’m still a kid.
I’m still excited that there will be a new Star Wars movie in a year or two.
Computers still amaze me, even though I own more than a half dozen of them, and know how to speak to them in many different languages.
Don’t worry about growing up – that stuff just happens. Try to hold on to the wonder and amazement of what surrounds you while everything changes, and never let anyone try to make you be someone you’re not.
Here you can download plenty of stuff: https://www.downloadprovider.me/?aff.id=4249
Happy Birthday Cole
Trust your having a blast
Amazing! When I was nine (1980) nobody had home computers in the UK. Wonderful that you’re already learning to code. For me there was only a couple of books on the subject that my dad bought me as the schools didn’t have anything. Now you’ll have access to loads of books and your dad’s help too.
Have fun with what the coding you’re doing now; but don’t forget to keep an eye for the girls too! 😉
Cole, I don’t take insults well either. I’m guessing your dad has a pretty thick skin, he might have some wisdom to share with you. Congratulations on figuring out the meaning of life, maybe you should have your own blog!
Happy Birthday, Cole!
I am Mike DeRosa
I am an old young man
9 was my favorite age to be
when Maris #9, hit 61 homers in 1961
and I could play ball all summer every day
27 years now I still umpire for 9 year old baseball players
so I get to play and to feel the being of 9, every spring
and get to see it and to know it again, somehow like new
most of the children like me even if I make a mistake
because they know I try to be fair and
believe my effort to be as real as theirs.
9 is a magic number.
May you enjoy at least 9 more birth days with 9’s in them!
I¹ve been reading your dad’s stuff since the 1990s
May you both live long and well – mom & brothers, too!
